Remote Computing
KLM frequently gets requests from businesses to give their employees remote access to programs and data that resides on a server at their office. We usually recommend a Microsoft Terminal Server solution. Terminal Server allows employees to securely access, via the internet, programs and data residing on servers at the customer's location. The users are presented with a familiar GUI interface, similar to what they see when sitting in their office. Users in remote locations can run programs, save files, and use network resources as though those resources were installed on the users' own computers. By installing programs on a terminal server, you can ensure that all users are using the same version of a program. This can be a very cheap, but secure and robust solution for employees remote computing needs.

Anti-Virus Server
All business computer users today are aware of the dangers of computer viruses, trojans and other threats to their employees productivity and their company data. Some are not aware, though, that there is an easy way to make sure that all users on their network are protected with the latest scanning engine and virus definitions available. An anti-virus server solution will give you the peace of mind of knowing that the latest engines are downloaded to a central location, the server, and then distributed throughout the network. The server will also monitor the status of itself, and each of the clients, and notify the appropriate person if a problem exists.Take the burden off of the user to determine if they are protected, and allow them to do what they do best---their job.

Outlook Web Access

We get many requests from customers who want an easy way to access their corporate e-mail when they are on the road. If your company uses Microsoft Exchange server for their e-mail, you may be able to use Outlook Web Access (OWA). Outlook Web Access enables you to securely access your Microsoft Exchange Server mailbox from any computer, anywhere in the world, with an Internet connection. You can check and respond to e-mail, manage your calendar, and see other Microsoft Office Outlook items. Send text and Rich Text e-mail. Send and receive attachments. Use the calendar to schedule meetings, send meeting requests, and book resources. Store and retrieve contact details. Delegate access so others can manage your mailbox while you're away or out of the office. Manage and prioritise incoming e-mail using a variety of filter rules. Access your files and e-mail, anywhere, any time as long as you have an Internet connection and web browser.

Protect Your Server Data

Many small business computer servers today lack the redundancy needed to adequately protect the data that resides on them. KLM IT Consulting regularly advises it's business clients of the advantages of RAID (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks) protection for server data. It has been widely used and deployed method for storage in the enterprise and server markets, but over the past 5 years has become much more common in mission critical end user systems. RAID is a system developed whereby a large number of low cost hard drives are linked together to form a single large capacity storage device that offers superior performance, storage capacity and reliability. If one hard drive fails in a RAID configuration, the server remains up and running, and the proper recovery steps can be taken when appropriate.
